Two teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was stabbed to death in Torquay.
Members of the public called the police just after 3.30pm on Sunday (September 17) to reports a man had been attacked in Ellacombe Church Road.
Officers and a helicopter from the air ambulance attended, but the man was declared dead at the scene.
Det Supt Ben Beckerleg said: “Despite (the) best efforts of everyone at the scene, the victim, a local man in his 30s, was declared deceased. His next of kin have been informed.
“Our thoughts are very much with the family and friends of the man who sadly died.”
Det Supt Beckerleg added Devon and Cornwall Police has launched an investigation with officers pursuing a number of lines of enquiry to establish what happened.
Two men, aged 18 and 19, both from Torquay, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and are currently in custody.
Det Supt Beckerleg, speaking on Sunday, said: “I appreciate this incident will cause much concern amongst the community.
“We are doing all that we can to establish what happened today and residents can expect to see officers in and around the area for the next few days.”
Ellacombe Church Road was cordoned off and a scene guard put in place which police expected to continue on Monday (September 18).
Devon and Cornwall Police is appealing for anyone in the area of Ellacombe Church Road from around 3pm on Sunday to get in touch.
