When the pandemic hit, composer Alexander Liebermann, locked down in Berlin, turned to nature and listened to recordings of bird songs. It inspired him to transcribe their complicated calls and translate them to musical instruments, creating songs that are as unpredictable and hauntingly beautiful as the originals. Correspondent Faith Salie talks with Liebermann about how his own compositions have taken flight.
